Ooh La La

As unbearable as the Dallas Summer can be, the first peek and anticipation of Fall can be just as inspiring. As I left my apartment this morning, I felt lighthearted and excited about trying a new bistro that had opened just a couple of blocks away. The morning walk was full of sunshine and a crispness that hinted Autumn was on its way. As I turned the corner where the little bistro is situated, the shadows of a high rise blocked the sun and the temperature dropped, beckoning the call with scents of fresh pastries and coffee. The outside of this little gem was reminiscent of a Parisian café with outside tables that met the sidewalk. As I went inside I was met by the friendliest of “good mornings” and suggestions for their morning selections. I took a seat in a nestled corner by one of the windows. From the music, to the staff, to the food; everything was served up with a quiet grace. I enjoyed the most heavenly Quiche Lorraine (which is saying a lot, because I thought I made the best), nibbles of the flakiest Pain Au Chocolat and a Hazelnut Latte, complete with foamed leaf in mismatched china…ooh la la! So, if you find yourself, anytime in the near future, in Uptown Dallas, stop by the Mercat Bistro and enjoy a delightful experience.

Did you read The 4- Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss?  Well he has a new offering, The 4- Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide To Rapid Weight Loss, Incredible Sex and Becoming Superhuman.  Read, read, read!!  So this brings me to our dinner last night.  I found some recipes from George Stella (remember Low Carb and Lovin’ It on the Food Network Channel) and dessert compliments of Martha Stewart.  The menu for dinner: Antipasta Platter, Anaheim Shrimp Scampi, Radicchio Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing and Flourless Chocolate Cake.  The recipes for dinner can be found at http://www.foodnetwork.com/low-carb-and-lovin-it/now-thats-italian/index.html and dessert at http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/best-flourless-chocolate-cake

What a wonderful holiday season here at the Bosworth House.  We took some much needed time off and spent time with friends and family.  I am anxious to get back to work and can’t wait to see what this New Year brings my way!

Friday Night Date Night

Well, after being away for a week in Raleigh, we decided to stay in for Date Night.  A couple of cocktails and a Backgammon Challenge.  This is how it played out:  I won, he lost, he won, I lost, I won, he lost, he won, I lost, he won, I lost – Let’s make out anyway, Victory was his 3-2!

Okay, so we didn’t actually go out for date night, we stayed in.  David got in from Savannah late afternoon, so we got in our bathing suits and enjoyed dinner and a movie by the pool. We watched “Date Night”, absolutely hysterical, a must see.  Saturday morning, we whipped up a brunch fritata and caesar salad.  Yum!  Can’t wait to see what tonight brings!

Date Night

So, it’s Friday night “Date Night” in Atlanta for David and I and we decide to head down south to the sleepy little town of Senoia for dinner at Maguire’s.  Wow!  Why have we waited so long to visit?  What we found was a very hospitable staff, thank you Julia (our very informative waitperson) and Tony Morgan (Manager), and the charm of a small southern town with big city offerings.  David enjoyed the Fish and Chips, while I dined on a sizzling platter of blackened ribeye on a bed of sauteed onions complemented with smashed potatoes and peas.  Maguire’s has a small private dining/wine cellar that would make a lovely venue for a pre wedding dinner or small reception.  Thank you again to our new friends at Maguire’s in Senoia, Georgia!

David and I were fortunate enough to visit one of our favorite places recently, The Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island.  Breathtaking views everywhere!

Color Color Everywhere!

Remembering that Ms. Paula Deen’s sons, Jamie and Bobby’s Good Cooking magazine was still waiting to be read, I decided to give my mind a break from thinking about weddings and color and do what any self respecting Southern Girl would do, bake something!  Orange-Ricotta Pound Cake is calling my name.  Sorry boys, but I had to make a couple of changes to your recipe.  Not having 3 cups of ricotta, I used 2 plus and cup of sour cream.  Instead of orange zest, I substitutted lemon zest and had to substitute vanilla extract for the orange.  So my variation was kind of a citrus-ricotta pound cake.  Despite the changes, as usual with any delicacy the Deen’s whip up, it is marvelous!

So, how is it that while trying to take my mind off of weddings and color, I still ended up with beautiful individual Citrus Ricotta Pound Cakes that would be a marvelous favor for a beautiful wedding of yellow, gray, black and white?

What? Our baby is 18???

Oh my!  Could it really be?  Please indulge this mom’s great sadness/happiness in publishing our Jake’s 18th Birthday morning!  The cakes are his favorite books growing up that we read over and over and over.. oh well you get the point.  Sheep In A Jeep, The Giving Tree, Green Eggs and Ham and Happy Birthday Moon. Happy Birthday Jake!!!
